I bought the dang shoes.
Over the summer, I was flicking through Amazon and stumbled on these shoes. They caught my eye, but I scrolled past. I’m a black flats type of woman. Functionality and comfort over everything.
But these? Totally outside my normal. So, despite Amazon’s relentless retargeting, I avoided them. I couldn’t possibly pull these off, even though I found them completely adorable. And where would I wear them? I work from home!

Then, one day, I asked myself why I was hesitating. Was it because they were different? People might think, “Look at that crazy lady and her grandma’s carpet shoes.”
I threw everything to the wind and ordered the shoes. I figured I might hate them, so I could just send them back.
I. Love. Them.
Even though they are WAY outside my comfort zone, I slipped them on proudly. And they are FUN. I’m not ashamed to say I did a little happy dance like you see little kids do in shoe stores.
Sometimes, it’s ok to put the fun in functional. We are only on this planet for a blip, and if we aren’t finding joy in what we do, then really, what’s the point?
Moving into the last part of the year and into 2025, I’m going to look for more ways to inject fun and joy into my life. Life is too short to be strictly functional. Won’t you join me? Buy the dang shoes.
